ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE

Older listeners, or readers, will possibly think those three words, accentuate the positive, are somewhat familiar. They are actually the title of a popular song from many years ago. The first line went like this: “You’ve got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative.” A very positive song! One of the pleasures of advanced years is that one is able to remember songs written in another age. An age when the songs had harmony, melody, shape and reflected life. There were happy songs, comic songs, and during the years of world war 2 there were also songs which moved the listener to tears. There were songs which had meaning. They were structured and very much part of human life. I just used the words that they reflected life! They did! And today’s songs do too! They reflect a society of noise, clamour, confusion. They reflect a world without God. They reflect a world held captive by a contrary spirit and force. A force determined to destroy this world and with it the whole of mankind. A force determined to destroy any possibility of mankind ever achieving its destiny.
A song from almost 50 years ago was “What a Wonderful World” – Louis Armstrong made it known throughout the world. The first words went like this “I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and you, and I think to myself what a wonderful world.” He went on to sing of the skies of blue, clouds of white, a bright blessed day. He sang of the rainbow, of friends shaking hands saying “How do you do” but really saying “I love you.” He continued “I hear babies cry, I watch them grow. They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know and I think to myself what a wonderful world.” And indeed it is a wonderful world now almost wrecked by the satanic spirit that inhabits this planet and affects and influences its people. Another song from many years ago was “Shine on, shine on, harvest moon.” Have you ever thought what a remarkable structure the moon is! It might almost have been specifically designed as an auxiliary service unit for planet Earth! And indeed that is exactly what it is!
It isn’t like other celestial bodies, planets, stars, suns, asteroids etc. The moon’s existence is crucial for intelligent life, in fact for any life, on earth, for several reasons.
Apart from our sun which is essential for us to continue living on the Earth, we don’t specifically need the other bodies except for navigation at sea and in the air. Even the birds need the ability to navigate long distances as they migrate. But we do need the Moon. Its gravitational force affects the speed at which the Earth revolves. Without it the Earth would spin at such a speed that the day would no longer be 24 hours, but instead would be 8! So much depends on the Moon being the exact size it is and being in the exact position that it is, it cannot be just a fortunate accident ! Its gravitational pull stabilises the axial tilt of the earth. Consequently the planet we call home doesn’t wobble widely on its axis. If the earth wasn’t at the exact angle it is in relation to the Sun, if for example it was upright like Mercury there would probably be no seasons and there would be extreme variations in temperature. This would result in most of the planet being incapable of supporting life. But because the Earth has the position and tilt that it does in relation to the Sun the temperatures are moderated so that life is possible.
The Moon also has the effect of creating tides in the seas and oceans around the Earth. These not only wash the shorelines everywhere but have a major effect on the climate. Isn’t it interesting to note an amazingly neat symmetry in that the Moon is 1/400th the diameter of the Sun, yet it is 400 times closer to Earth than the Sun. It is possible that the reason for this was to achieve the correct intensity and quality of the light reflected by the Moon as it is received from the Sun. Many years ago the Cornish people, my father among them, used to refer to the moon as “the parish lantern.” Just think what the earth would be like if there was no night! If the sun was shining the whole time! The sun and moon together provide mankind with an easy to understand and easy to calculate 24 hour clock and an easy to understand year calendar. A calendar and clock which can be operated easily and simply anywhere on the planet. A planet which is of exactly the right mass, with the exact circumference, giving the right gravitational pull that would hold everything, including all animal and human life, to the planet’s surface.
Mankind, from his creation as Adam and Eve, needed no complicated instructions as to what a day is or what a month is, or when the Sabbath day was to be. Or when these each began and when they closed and another period started. He needed no complicated instruments, no complicated calculations, and no complex record keeping. We have no way of knowing exactly how Adam and Eve noted the passing of subsequent days, or the passing of a month and a year. You could do it quite easily using small pebbles to note a new day by the rising of the sun and the end of the day by the setting of the sun thereby giving night; with the half-light being referred to, for reasons of simplicity, even or evening. It would be possible to keep a similar record to note a month by noting which day there was a new moon. For reasons of simplicity the full period from one rising of the sun to the next was also known as a day.
There are many examples of that in the bible. In the book of Jeremiah, chapter 31 and verse 35 he quotes God and refers to Him as the Lord ‘Which gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night.” In the last chapter of Isaiah, chapter 66 and verse 23 God refers to a time coming, not far away now, when everyone on the planet shall come to worship Him from ‘one new moon to another,’ in other words a month. And from one ‘sabbath to another’ meaning the entire time for a complete week. A year is the time it takes the planet to make one complete orbit around the sun. Measurement has long established it at 365 ¼ days. The ¼ days being saved up and added to the whole year as a complete day every 4 years.
Man has simplified things a little by giving each of the 24 hour periods, or days, a name. Naturally he didn’t have to give the days pagan names, but so far had Satan’s influence spread that that was what mankind did.
He did the same thing with the names of the months. The entire system of keeping track of seasons, years, months, weeks and days is brilliantly simple and being tied to the movements of the sun and moon which everyone can observe anywhere on earth lends itself to no argument. So simple that people at one time when held in prison would note the passing of time by making a mark on the wall of the cell to indicate a day. Prisoners of war would often do this.
Evolutionists like to say that there was a “Big Bang” and as a result life came into being. How exactly the inorganic can go “bang” and thereby create an explosion from which life resulted is a mystery beyond even Sherlock Holmes! And then how the big bang can create all the life support systems which exist is another mystery that the evolutionist just will not try to answer. He might just say “well, given enough time” – how much more time do they need! One basic factor destroys any argument they try to present and that is that life cannot come from the inorganic! Life can only come from life! So alternative theories are developed, which are just that and nothing more, theories!! One being that aliens arrived and started it all! But the problem with this explanation is that any possible extra-terrestrial life-form would have to come from so far away that, even with faster-than-light travel, it would take millions of years to get to earth. Perhaps they time-travelled! In which case they wouldn’t have dared make any changes as they might otherwise unhappily and quite accidentally prejudice their own existence!
Why not admit the most likely explanation that there is a spirit world being brought into being by a creator, God. The basic problem is one that many otherwise highly intelligent people suffer from. That is they just cannot accept the obvious. Romans chapter 1, verse 18 onwards says this: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, ‘who suppress the truth in unrighteousness’ “ What is so difficult about accepting that there is a supreme intelligence which has set something going and is working to a plan. A plan which is rapidly approaching its fulfilment. Why cannot we understand the obvious, the only possible answer and explanation that we have been created as physical human beings in order to LIMIT us. Otherwise as God Himself said in Genesis 11:6 anything that Man can imagine doing would be possible at some point. If we did not have physical restraints placed upon us, given our present record, we would destroy the entire universe! We already have a pile of space junk orbiting this planet!
We seem to think that the biblical accounts of angels making themselves known to people on Earth as being weird. What’s so difficult about accepting that beings DO exist at a different level to the physical. Such beings then do not have the constraints upon them that we do. What is so difficult about understanding that space travel is indeed possible and no space ship needed! That beings such as the angels can be anywhere in the Universe in a moment. What’s so difficult in understanding that travel at the speed of thought is the fastest form of travel! But would you listening to me, or reading these words, would you make such an ability available to mankind as he is at present? You know you wouldn’t! They why should God? He doesn’t and He won’t until we all, as individuals, show ourselves personally as one who does want for himself, or herself, what God, the supreme intelligence who tells us that we should see Him as our Father, wants for us.
What’s so difficult in understanding that there is a plan being worked out here below. Winston Churchill understood that! Why can’t our otherwise intelligent evolutionists? Indeed, why can’t you? You can if you want to. Proverbs 29:18 says this to us: “where there is no vision the people perish; …” Can you capture that vision? You can if you want to!
