EVENTS! DEAR BOY, EVENTS!!

It was, I believe, Harold Macmillan when as prime minister of the United Kingdom he was asked by a journalist what was most likely to blow his government off course. He replied “Events, dear boy, events!” He may not have been the one to first use that response, but he was certainly, in my view, the most effective demonstrator of the phrase. It contained a lot of understanding and we can safely use it again when considering today’s world.

We have, in these Newsletters and in these Letters from London, constantly and consistently presented the evidence as to the way the world is going. We have pointed to what will be the most likely result of that direction. So much has happened over perhaps the last three or four years, so many “events” that could separately be viewed as yet another nail, that one wonders how many more nails are needed before the present world system faces imminent collapse. Today is yet another example.

The Independent of London reported that America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in conjunction with the United Kingdom’s Meteorological Office’s Hadley Centre listed 10 separate indicators of a warming planet, seven of them rising – ranging from air temperature over land and humidity to sea level -- and three of them declining: Arctic sea-ice, glaciers, and spring snow cover. “The scientific evidence that our world is warming is unmistakable,” NOAA said. The report admits that some inaccurate and/or vague statements were made by some scientists which, as it says, gave succour to climate change sceptics, but does nothing to undermine “the overall conclusions …. That climate change is real, man-made, getting worse, and destined to have big impacts on sea levels, and therefore on human life.”

It is assessed that the world at the moment has a safety zone of 1.5C to 2C of warming and must by all means stay below 2C. However, all the factors indicate that we are going to see a rise of 3.5C - the comment was made “humans may survive, but our warmer world will be getting increasingly lonely.”

Whatever stance we individually take one cannot deny that there is something happening! On Sunday, the BBC World Service reported that a volcano in the north of the island of Sumatra erupted for the first time in more than 400 years. The press reported a day later that at least 12,000 people were evacuated to temporary shelters out of the high risk area. Yet another event! Another “event” is the continuing catastrophic flooding in Pakistan, another the deadly heatwave in Russia which so wrecked the wheat harvest that the nation ceased all exports of wheat. There were the severe droughts in Australia.

Another “event” is featured in the TV listings for this week. This is the appearance of the Humboldt squid in vastly increased numbers. Had you heard of the Humboldt squid? No? Neither had I! There is a brief write-up about it accompanying the TV listings for this week. It says: ‘The most opportunistic predators on the planet, they eat everything in their path.’ And, that also includes humans. Thousands upon thousands of aggressive Humboldt squid are making their presence felt in the Pacific, many miles off their usual patch, and threatening the balance of the ocean’s ecosystem. There is a very real threat to the fish stocks of the Pacific. These animals are also very prolific, one female may carry as many as a million eggs, all of which are capable of being fertilised! This documentary asks why is this happening.’ It’s another ‘event’ to add to the rest of a number of significant “events” that tell us that there really is something going on!

There are now a number of factors rampant in the world today which could trigger the eradication of all life from the face of the earth. You know of many of them. It means you and your family, your friends and neighbours have no future to look forward to. We just do not take this human life seriously and, as a result,
could be prejudicing that future. We need to realise that there really are non-physical forces alive and active and contained to this planet which are determined to destroy mankind and the planet.

Meanwhile the attack by otherwise intelligent people, which is actually more than attack, it’s an onslaught used as it is by those forces. You may recall that in the past we have quoted Prof. Stephen Hawking’s writings and statements and have shown the considerable effort he, with others of scientific bent – I could better rephrase that and refer to it as “bent science”! –they go to, to destroy an understanding of God and the creation in the minds of people. Professor Hawking has surfaced yet again with a forthcoming book with the title “The Grand Design” which purports to “answer” the question “Did the Universe need a creator?” An extract is appearing this week in Eureka, published by The Times newspaper. A report of it appears in the issue for 2nd September, today as I write this letter. The report gives Professor Hawking’s answer to his own redundant question as “…a resounding No!”

The Times report has a number of quotes from Professor Hawking’s book. Here is one of them “Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist,” “It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the Universe going,” He further says that far from being a once-in-a-million event that could only be accounted for by extraordinary serendipity or a divine hand, the Big Bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics. He also writes that the first blow was the confirmed observation in 1992 of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun. “That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions – the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass – far less remarkable and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings.”

Another purpose the Times report says that this book, co-authored by the American physicist Leonard Mlodinow, has is to deconstruct Sir Isaac Newton’s belief that the Universe could not have arisen out of chaos due to the mere laws of Nature, but must have been created by God. It is a reproach upon Science that Professor Hawking, who until he retired last year held the same post as Sir Isaac Newton, that of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University. Professor Hawking further says “Not only other planets, but whole universes, known collectively as the multiverse, are likely to exist. … If God’s intention was to create mankind, then these many untouchable worlds would surely be redundant.”

You, whoever you are, who don’t believe in God; you, who mock the idea and concept of there being a creator, God! you, you who believe in one or other of the false gods which abound in today’s professing christianity let alone the world with its myriad religious beliefs, you are going to witness another event which, unless it takes place, will see the ending of all life on this planet, which itself is a climatic event from which there is no escape! What event is it of which I am speaking and writing? Beliefs have been singularly ineffective in bringing people to a relationship with God our Father, but instead are witness to this world and especially this nation of Britain becoming probably the most corrupt society to have ever existed on this planet.

It is the return to this planet of the true Jesus Christ, the real Jesus, not the one generated by professing Christianity. But Jesus Christ, the son of the eternal God. The one true God who describes Himself as the “I AM” – the one who was, who is and will be, in other words eternal. One who is constantly, publicly and noisily rejected, in Britain, by certain so called TV personalities. People who have virtually made a profession, a well paid one, of abusing the medium to which they have such access.

Have you ever addressed the question of the existence of God? It’s all very well denying that God exists! But what is your basis for adopting that position? The noisy TV personalities are not shy in making fun of the belief others have in the existence of God. They have no hesitation in saying how evolution denies the existence of God! In fact, when we examine what is actually meant by evolution, what the philosophy is behind it, we find it is actually leads to yet another proof of God’s existence! Constantly, Professor Hawking writes of laws! He wrote of the “laws of physics”, the “law of gravity” -- I quoted his comment that the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. This really is a statement lacking any logic whatsoever!

One statement of his, however, actually got near to the truth! He said this back in 1988: “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we should know the mind of God!” Born in 1892 in the state of Iowa in the United States, another man, Herbert W. Armstrong those many years ago was challenged over the issue of God’s existence. He felt by analysing himself, looking at his strengths and weaknesses, that he was best fitted to the profession of journalism and advertising. He became an advertising man who well knew how people think! He was a person who thought logically and clearly. As the years passed, he matured and was challenged by what he saw of life. He brought his abilities to bear upon the question of the existence of God. Looking at the same factors as Professor Hawking today, Herbert Armstrong realised there were basic laws that proved God’s existence and showed the purpose and reason for Man on Earth.
